What we talk about when we were talking by Alice Lin

This was the first work of Alice Lin's that I saw. It popped up on my tumblr feed when I was idly scrolling and I actually sat up when I saw it. I remember just staring for a moment, trying to take in the incredible chaos of imagery in this work. I am still absolutely in love with how it explores the way the internal worlds of the subjects explode out towards each other when they are talking.

Sadly, it was without attribution and after a few google searches that led nowhere I gave it up as a lost cause. Still, the image stuck with me, and when another work once again came across my tumblr dashboard, this time with a beautiful source link, I was overjoyed to find her whole body of work was just as stunning. Lin's works all have a wonderfully surreal, dreamlike quality, and deal with one of my favourite subject matters: the internal vs the external world.

As the artist herself states,
" You may view most of my paintings as portraits; these portraits for me are about exploring the concept of the ‘container’. It’s a medium between the inside and outside. Our body is a container, connected to the outside world and our breath, blood, thoughts, feelings, emotions, dreams, etc. are the content; through this content we are able to experience life, and we are able to learn about art, the world or ourselves." (Lin, Alice. "Container." Behance.)

Needless to say, I am absolutely in awe, and cannot wait to see what she comes up with next.
